He's Crawling!

It's official! Nicholas is now crawling....which means that my days of putting him down on his back for a few moments of rest are over. He's spent the past month on all fours rocking back and forth, and finally last Wed., he made it across the room. My favorite moment is when I put my arms out and he crawls immediately to me with a big smile on his face. Occasionally, he gets distracted by things on his way over, but he will follow me crawling wherever I walk.

He's also pulling himself up to a standing position using anything he can find. Even in his little tub, he will try to use the soap holder to stand up. There's no stopping him. He's definitely not interested in sitting anywhere for longer than 2 min. Feeding him in his high chair is a challenge - he just hates to be seated in there for food. Maybe I should start giving him creme brulee or chocolate mousse to entice him to enjoy his seat a bit longer.

I spent a few hours this weekend removing things that would endanger the crawling man. It's amazing how much changes once they make that move to being a crawler. I guess I should get ready for walking - my bet is that he'll be doing it around 10 months at this rate.

Growing Baby

This week, we confirmed that all the milk he's been drinking has resulted in Nicholas weighing in at 10 pounds, 2 ounces. I think that he's also grown a few inches as well. That's harder to measure as he's quite squirmy and loves to kick. He also has begun to baby talk - making small babbles when he's happy and lying on his back. It's amazing what a few weeks growth can mean in baby terms. He's also able to lift his head up when we carry him around, and he's often mesmerized by the world around him. The biggest development is his ability to sleep at night with a 12 am, 3 am and 8 am feeding. The feedings aren't too long, so I've been able to catch up on  my sleep. I keep the room dark so that he eats and knocks right out after he finishes rather than being wide awake. We also went for our first walk together alone in the neighborhood. Final Countdown - 7 days till due date

We're almost at the finish mark and Nicholas is still relaxing inside. I think he's quite comfy in my belly, enjoying the warmth and good food that I feed him everyday. Cam made some amazing pancakes this morning and we just finished some delicious beef stew for dinner.  Belly at 39 weeks This weekend was definitely all about nesting - after having two weeks off from work, I finally got cracking on getting the apartment cleaned and his clothes organized. We initially moved all the stuff in the 3rd bedroom to the hallway to make way for the nursery and it's been there ever since. My goal this week is to completely clear it out so that we're completely done. We did manage to get another Ikea bookshelf setup to add more space and I vacuumed like mad. 21 Weeks!

Baby planning is definitely a lot different than wedding planning. The baby is here forever, where a wedding takes place on one day and then it's over. With 3 weeks until our anniversary, I was feeling sad tonight that it is coming up so soon as I had such a good time with friends and family. I'm glad that baby planning is occupying me daily to keep me busy. At 22 weeks, we've managed this week to pick up a crib and find a doula . I was finally able to make it to Kiddytown last week to check out the cribs. The decision was simple as the crib I chose was the right price, included a mattress and doesn't require any additional pieces to turn it into all the other bed options when Nicholas grows. Doula Search Done I also completed my interviews of 3 doulas and have picked one that I think will do a great job for us. They were all extremely nice, gentle and friendly woman.
