Yeye's Post: March 5, 2014

Yesterday Jean made playdough before Joshua's arrival.  After Cam left for work the 3 of us went into the playroom to try the playdough.  Joshua was very taken with it; he especially liked having me roll it into balls.  Then we used our small rolling pin to flatten it. Jean gave him a box of Mr Men (flat) molds to press onto the playdough; he showed a particular liking for Mr Happy.

Playdough kept the 2 of us amused for 20-25 minutes, and then we turned to building a tower with duplo.  I tried to go straight up, but Joshua kept choosing the longest pieces he could find, so our 2x2 base had higher levels reaching out in all directions.  And we perched a few toy people on the upper levels.  Then Joshua spotted the marbleworks - but he didn't start on that right away!  First he disassembled the tower, piece by piece, and put it all away in the proper box (we had previously put the playdough away). I hadn't suggested this, it was his initiative.  (You probably remember that 3 weeks ago we wouldn't give Joshua his snack until he had put his toys away; he seems to have accepted that tidyness is next to Goodliness.)

The marbleworks are probably Joshua's favourite toy of the moment (mine too).  Previously I did most of the engineering, but yesterday he put 3 or 4 pieces together all by himself, and put a marble on top, and it worked its way down. Good for you Joshua!  And after 15 minutes he put all the pieces in the box.

A bit later Jean sat him on the potty and together they read the potty storybook.  I was busy for a bit, and then I took over with Joshua still on the potty - we read the book a further 2 times.  Then I had to go to fetch Nicholas, so I didn't witness what happened next.  Jean had given up on the potty; Joshua had been sitting there for 30 minutes, but when he stood up she (and he) were surprised to see he had peed.  Hooray, success!

When Nicholas and I arrived back, Jean showed him the playdough.  Nicholas wanted to make it into cookies, so we rolled some out on the playroom table and he used a cookie-cutter to shape them.  Then Jean gave him a cookie pan, and Nicholas prepared them for the oven.  We had an empty cardboard box that Peter had given us (Dragonwave), so we set that on its side and Nicholas put his pan of cookies inside to bake.  The oven door wouldn't stay closed, so Nicholas set the potty against it to keep it shut.  Of course, by this time Joshua was asleep downstairs.

Jean and I saw this, then we folded 1 edge like a table in front of them, and drew 2 steering wheels for them to steer their car - which they did, noisily. As Jean said, we should have got a video of that, very cute!

Later in the afternoon the same box was sitting in the living room, when 1 of the boys sat in it.  His brother climbed in as well, side-by-side, and they commenced making driving noises.
