Nicholas Visits Montreal - Wed., July 15



This week, I took Nicholas to Montreal during Amelia's visit to Ottawa. The day was beautiful, so we thought we'd drive out to my favorite city to visit some of our favorite spots. We visited St. Laurent so that Amelia could dive into a tasty sandwich at Schwartzes. I chose to feed Nicholas some chicken from Coco Rico. I've always wondered what it tasted like, so thought that it was time we did a taste test and plus, he was hungry.

For dessert, I fed him a chocolate croissant from my favorite bakery - Au Pain Dore. There's nothing like chocolate croissants from Montreal! Yum Yum. I seem to be addicted to them lately.

After lunch, we drove up to Mont Royal for a nice scenic walk amongst the beautiful park. My mom keeps telling me to enjoy leisurely walks while pregnant, so I took advantage of the beautiful surroundings and soaked up the scenery. The Chinese believe that you are supposed to surround yourself with a poetic existence during pregnancy so that you will be calm and to expose the baby to beauty early on in life.

Our last visit of the day was to Old Montreal. The port was filled with people enjoying drinks and food on patios, artists all around and lots of families with kids. I can't stop looking at strollers and examining their users to see how happy they are with them.

Since it was hot, we decided to end the day with some gelato. My obsession with chocolate during this pregnancy meant that I had to choose the choco chocolate flavor! Delicious and nice and cold for a hot sunny day.

We got Nicholas home safe and sound for dinner time. There will be many more visits to Montreal in the future for him. He'll have lots of little friends to meet there as well - Matisse, Anna, Max, and a new little one coming soon for Therese and JF.

Growing Baby

This week, we confirmed that all the milk he's been drinking has resulted in Nicholas weighing in at 10 pounds, 2 ounces. I think that he's also grown a few inches as well. That's harder to measure as he's quite squirmy and loves to kick. He also has begun to baby talk - making small babbles when he's happy and lying on his back. It's amazing what a few weeks growth can mean in baby terms. He's also able to lift his head up when we carry him around, and he's often mesmerized by the world around him. The biggest development is his ability to sleep at night with a 12 am, 3 am and 8 am feeding. The feedings aren't too long, so I've been able to catch up on  my sleep. I keep the room dark so that he eats and knocks right out after he finishes rather than being wide awake. We also went for our first walk together alone in the neighborhood. Final Countdown - 7 days till due date

We're almost at the finish mark and Nicholas is still relaxing inside. I think he's quite comfy in my belly, enjoying the warmth and good food that I feed him everyday. Cam made some amazing pancakes this morning and we just finished some delicious beef stew for dinner.  Belly at 39 weeks This weekend was definitely all about nesting - after having two weeks off from work, I finally got cracking on getting the apartment cleaned and his clothes organized. We initially moved all the stuff in the 3rd bedroom to the hallway to make way for the nursery and it's been there ever since. My goal this week is to completely clear it out so that we're completely done. We did manage to get another Ikea bookshelf setup to add more space and I vacuumed like mad. 21 Weeks!

Baby planning is definitely a lot different than wedding planning. The baby is here forever, where a wedding takes place on one day and then it's over. With 3 weeks until our anniversary, I was feeling sad tonight that it is coming up so soon as I had such a good time with friends and family. I'm glad that baby planning is occupying me daily to keep me busy. At 22 weeks, we've managed this week to pick up a crib and find a doula . I was finally able to make it to Kiddytown last week to check out the cribs. The decision was simple as the crib I chose was the right price, included a mattress and doesn't require any additional pieces to turn it into all the other bed options when Nicholas grows. Doula Search Done I also completed my interviews of 3 doulas and have picked one that I think will do a great job for us. They were all extremely nice, gentle and friendly woman.
