Two and Four

It's been almost a year since I last added an entry. Nicholas has now started to ask me questions about himself when he was a wee one in my belly. I had to think long and hard to remember all those stories during my pregnancy. The one I told tonight involved swimming with the sharks. Cam and I took a vacation to the Bahamas when he was 13 weeks in the womb and we bravely took a trip out to the sea and swam face to face with the sharks. He had many question about that adventure tonight like - did you get bitten? Did you touch the sharks? Smartly, he also asked "Wasn't it dangerous?"

Tonight made me think back to all the posts I wrote when I was pregnant and when he was one years old. It was so nice to reflect back then on all the new and exciting changes. I can now show him the blog and share the pics with all the changes of my belly

Two and Four - that's the age that the boys are now at.

Nicholas is in his final few months at Ganon Preschool in Kita Kachol with Morah Jess and Jan. He loves his class and has built some nice friendships with the girls and boys. They play freeze dance, switch shoes during gym time, play on the computer, have show and tell and much more. He's still a slow to warm up chid, but after some familiarity with the settings, he is able to shine through and can be quite funny.

Nicholas loves to tell stories, and apparently is very crafty at school. He has a very different home and school persona. Cam and I couldn't believe that the Morahs describe him as the model student. He just finished up winter soccer, and now is beginning a new class with the City of Ottawa. As expected, he was painfully shy and scared for the first class and by the second class began to warm up to the class. He excelled in Coach Cathy's class over the winter - kicking the ball and leading all the play games that they had. Nana and Yeye came to two classes, which Nicholas loved. He is all signed up to play in the summer, which will be outdoors on Saturday mornings.

As a 4 year old, Nicholas has matured a lot this past year. He has expanded his food groups - eating carrots and broccoli regularly, pasta, dried mango, lots of milk, pears, ham, pizza/grilled cheese, pancakes, cereal for breakfast and most recently expressed a new liking to Cam's meatballs. As soon as we find out he likes something new - Cam is off to make bathes of it since Nicholas is such a picky eater.

Most recently, Nicholas is into the song "Let it Go" from Frozen. All the kids at his school have seen the movie and know the words. One night a few weeks ago, he decided to give a concert and began to sing the song. I didn't recognize it so I checked it out and found out that it is a recent hit and not a kid's song.  How's that for learning about new songs?

Joshua
Joshy is a little chatty Cathy. Since he's developing his language skills now, he likes to repeat words over and over. "Oh Dear" is something he's been saying quite often. Nana wondered where that came from and finally realized that he learned it all from her.

Joshy's personality is very different from Nicholas'. He is more expressive when meeting new people and easier to adapt to new situations. He is still quite shy when he is in a new situation, and doesn't feel as comfortable with animals. He is generally a happy boy and is either singing or talking. He is very smily and a sensitive boy. When he knows that he has been naughty, he will often look down and give a sulky face with his lips pursed. I will have to capture a photo to share as it is quite funny.

Joshy is in Ganon Preschool and goes there 3 days a week in the mornings. He loves his class and is quite liked by his Morahs. When he first started in September, he had very few words and mostly grunted. He now speaks in full sentences and is able to express himself quite clearly. He is not potty trained yet, but we hope that he will succumb to peer pressure like Nicholas did when he began the 3 year old program.

On Saturday mornings, Joshy and Cam go to gymnastics. He is doing much better at the Ottawa Gymnastics Club compared to Starr Gymnastics last fall. He liked to run off when we went to Starr, so this class has been much better in keeping him focused on the activities since the classes aren't as full or busy.

Joshy is also an eating machine - boo boo berries! He loves to eat a few bowls of blueberries in the morning, cereal, toast, milk and whatever anyone else is eating. He is never shy to turn down any food and we often find him eating Nicholas' left overs or just grabbing food from Nicholas' plate. He loves to eat rice, dried mango, chicken, apples, oranges, bananas - he is not picky which has made our lives easier.

Life with Two
I am always thankful for the lives we have. We are blessed with the two boys who keep us entertained. They consume all our time, but now that they're getting older and able to communicate with each other - it's getting a lot easier. Of course, they fight a lot and Joshy has gotten really good at wrestling with Nicholas. They want to now sleep together, but they're not there yet - Joshy doesn't stop yapping and he's still in a crib so we think that the summer time may be a good opportunity for them to test it out.

Mornings are insane - I've gotten a lot better in figuring out the right bribes to get them out the door and myself ready in the mornings. TV and Pretzels! TV before they go so that I can get ready and pretzels in a bowl to get them out the door. The winter of 2013/14 has been 6 months long, so add on to the routine getting their winter gear on and it can take a few hours to get out the door in the morning.

At night, we've gotten into a very good routine of getting them to bed by 8 pm. Nicholas is now able to get to bed without us having to stay with him for an hour. It is such a relief! We had to fight every night and coax him to sleep on his own. Now, he has his regular routine that he follows and doesn't give us any problems as long as we stay on track. Joshy is much easier - we used to just drop him into the crib but now he also gets a night time story. He listens to "Down by the Bay" and "Rockabye Lullabies" on the iPod - at least we don't have to hear the Hannukah songs anymore. For a while in December, all they wanted to listen to was "Oh Hannukah, Oh Hannikah" over and over and over again.

Well, that's all I have to share for tonight. I've captured tons of pics that will help keep the boys informed on what they've missed and they will be able to go back and watch themselves grow up. I will try to keep this updated more often so that they can come back anytime and read about how silly they were! Life is good - we're loving it!
